If it didn't fully disengage, then you would likely experience clutch slippage as you accelerate. I've recently started putting my 1980 special back together after bobbing it and the clutch does not seem to disengage. I have found that if it is cold and you try to start the bike in gear the the clutch in, the bike definitly wants to move forward. Best Answer: basically engaging the clutch is when the vehicle is in gear or ( drive in automatic gear box ) when you change gear you disengage and then re engage in the new gear, ie going up or down the gears, you should not be changing gears when going round corners ! although some drivers do it it is not recommended !. I pull it now when Iam going down the road it squeaks like a rusty hinge. It takes a lot of bleeding to get the fluid to start flowing and then get all the air out of the clutch line after replacing any clutch hydraulic component.
